Fire Retardant Nomex Sewing Thread
This is a spun Nomex thread with a Nomex filament wrapped with cotton. It can withstand temperatures of 700F (366C) before it decomposes. It meets these standards:
NFPA 1975-1999, NFPA 1971-1997, NFPA 1976-1992, and NFPA 1977-1998.
Size-for-size spun Kevlar is stronger that spun Nomex. This is not important for most garment sewing. Generally, Fire Retardant Kevlar is a better choice for sewing gear.
Fire retardant is not fire-proof. Filament Kevlar thread burns when exposed to a 2500F (1357C) cigarette lighter. It should not be used with conveyer belts and other gear that operates above 700F.
