Needles for Altin Sewing Machines
Find the right needle for about 12 Altin models. Note that older machines sometimes get retrofitted with needle bars that use different systems from their original design. Occasionally, needle points, sizes, or both can impact the needle system designation. Common exceptions include needle systems DBx1, 134, 1738A, 135x16, and 135x17. Almost all home sewing machines use system

15x1 needles. They are characterized by a flat side on the shank.
System Specific - Sometimes, the needle point, needle size, or both affect the needle system designation. Some common exceptions include:

- DBx1: This system has a shank diameter of 1.63 mm up to size 110/18. For sizes above 110/18, the shank diameter increases to 2.00 mm and it becomes system 134. To maintain the 1.63 mm shank diameter in larger sizes, switch to system 1738A.
- 135x16 and 135x17: These needle systems are interchangeable. 135x16 needles have leather points, while 135x17 needles have cloth points.

- Kevlar thread does not melt. It turns to ash.
- Size-for-size, Kevlar thread is on average 2.5 times stronger than nylon and polyester.
- Kevlar thread has a low stretch at around 2% over time.
